Naval Museum of Quebec was inaugurated in 1995 in the presence of the Honorable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada. Mr. Chrétien unveiled an official plaque dedicating the museum to Lieutenant- Commander Joseph Alexis Stanislas Déry, a veteran of the Second World War and the main contributor to the museum's initial collection.

During the initial years of the museum's existence, it became apparent that great sections of Canadian naval history were only researched and information was spread through many unconnected works.

The museum offers personalized educational visits adapted to students of all levels. It provides valuable information to the children. Parents bring their kids to make them aware about the Canadian Navy. They learn about the lives of yesterday's and today's sailors through anecdotes and photographs.

Visits last approximately 50 minutes and the museum can accommodate about 30 students at a time. Educational visits are free for all groups.
